Borgo San Lorenzo

Borgo San Lorenzo

Borgo San Lorenzo is a town that many know as one of the first settlements in the central area of Mugello. There are numerous testimonies of the existence of settlements even prior to the Etruscans, of which we can find traces near Ronta. From the 2nd century BC it was the Romans who settled in these places, creating the village of Anneianum, on the road that led from Florence to Faenza. There are also monuments, such as the statue dedicated to the dog Fido, created by the sculptor Salvatore Cipolla in memory of the history of the animal of the same name, which lived in the hamlet of Luco del Mugello. Fido (1941-1958) waited in vain for the return of his master Carlo Soriani, perished during an aerial bombardment in 1943, going every evening, for about fourteen years, until the day of his death, to the bus stop where the man got off on his return from work.
